From: cindy [chealy] Petcare Tips In doing a bit of animal rescue I can give you some ways to cut costs 1. do not not not buy the cheapest animal food going. Especially for cats cheap food can lead to very expensive vet bills. Buy a food with no meat by products and little corn if you can afford it. Many pet food stores carry their own brand as do grocery stores. These are not too bad quality to good food 2. Baking soda the cat litter to keep odour down between changes 3. Buy an extra litter box and air out boxes in the sun between uses to make them last longer 4. Brush long haired cats every day to avoid having to have the cat shaved 5. If you have a lot of animals that need flea treatment there are ways to save money Flea treatments can be bought for large dogs and can be used on smaller animals if you know what you are doing 6. If you live in an area with flea problems, buy the cheap collars and do not use on the animals but cut them up and slip them into the crevices on couches etc Place a piece in the vacuum cleaner bag and either change the bag between vacuuming or store bag in freezer to prevent eggs from hatching 7. Many rescue groups can direct you to less expensive but great vets and can help you get the best care for your money Cindy
