From: <0-NonFoodRecipes-0@onelist.com> For a whole class: Per Child: Cut out two Christmas trees, either a simple triangle, or trace a cookie cutter, like the Hallmark one. Draw a circle in the middle of one, and cut it out. The circle is where the picture will fit. Place the picture behind the cut out circle with tape, then glue the two trees together. Punch a tiny hole at the top, for the gold thread/yarn/whatever to hang it on the real Christmas tree. Doing the picture side first, have children decorate their mini tree/pix ornament with whatever you provide for them: felt pens, tiny stickers, glitter, or sequins (I prefer sequins, and Walmart sells rather large qty. bags for @$3.) After completely dry, flip over & decorate the other side. One of my children did this with felt, instead of paper, but felt is so hard to glue and it bleeds thru. Last year my daughter's class did a triangle shape from popsicle sticks, and the paper + pix was in the middle. The sticks were painted before the paper & pix were added. There's a recent addition on this board from Pathfinder about Rocks & a poem that goes with it, it doesn't need a picture, but I thought it would make a cute gift if you're at a Christian School. For a smaller class: Do above craft, but use fun foam instead of the paper! Use an angel cookie cutter shape, or a snowman shape works well, too. The picture would fit where the angel face goes, or snowman face would go. Use twigs for the snowman's arms. For 1, or 2 children: Buy the clear plastic round balls from the craft store. Make a paper circle to fit inside the ball. Glue the picture on one side, and a scripture verse about being wonderfully made (from Psalm 139) on the other. When my youngest was very tiny, 3 mos. old, I did her little handprint on one side, with her picture on the other for the grandparents. You finish the ornament with wire ribbon in a bow, and a metallic thread thru the hanging hole. I've seen on I think it was familyfun.com an angel on a small flat wooden spoon (like used to come with ice cream in the little bowl containers - choc+van./strawberry+van). The face on the angel was a picture of a child's face, the dress a pie shaped cut from a doily, the wings from 1/2 of the doily, and a magnet on the backside to hold notes on the fridge. The recent issue of Family Fun has some child-made gift ideas: One is making ornaments from sparkly beads & pipe cleaners. You could do this with green beads, and connect them in a circle for a wreath ornament, and hang the pix in the middle after cutting it in a circle shape. Finish with a tiny red bow, and metallic thread to hang. Another is using an empty milk carton cut down to @3 inches. Use a small apple, or lime, or whatever that you can poke toothpicks into the sides so they don't sink into the plaster you've poured into the milk carton square. (Just one fruit) It basically makes a fossil print, and when set, your child paints it, and it's a little 'catch-all' dish for a parent/grandparent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reindeer dust Pour some oatmeal and glitter into a small ziploc bag, put the baggy in a large envelop, and included a letter from 'Santa' that said: (One recipe I saw suggested using colored sugars instead. You can easily make your own by putting sugar into a plastic bag, adding a little food coloring (not too much!) and shaking it up. Sure would be better for the birds and such! ) Dear (childs name), In this envelop is some magical reindeer dust. On Christmas eve, you should sprinkle this magical reindeer dust on your front lawn. The glitter will sparkle in the moonlight to help me find your house faster. The smell of the oats will help to guide my reindeer to your house. Love, Santa
