Cleaning the shower Dip rag into a solution of 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of clear ammonia and 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 gallon of warm water. After cleaning, rinse with warm water. To remove the yellow water marks, use a paste of cream of tarter and peroxide Soaking shower curtains in salt water will prevent them from mildewing If you have trouble getting hair spray off counter tops, walls, or tile floors, baking soda works great! Just mix some with a little warm water so it forms a paste and wipe down with dish towel. To clean your toilet bowl, put 2 cups of vinegar in the tank and in the bowl. Let it soak overnight. In the morning, brush to a sparkling clean. This is an easy way to remove lime and calcium Laundry Formula Stained Clothing: I have a laundry tip. I just had a new baby (my first). I could not believe the way the formula stained her clothing. I discovered something that will get out formula stains and even INK! Plain rubbing alochol! I buy it in a bottle about 40 cents at WalMart and pour it in a recycled spray bottle. Just spray those stains and launder as usual! Forget Spray and Wash Cement cleaner gets rust stains out of clothing. It even works on delicates. First, try rubbing it on a non-conspicuous area. This even works on rust stains that have set in the dryer! All too often on laundry day I see green...as I wage my motherly war on grass-stained jeans. My best ammunition? A squirt of SHAMPOO (the kind for oily hair really seems to work best) To remove milk stians left by a new baby on your clothes, apply lemon juice to the spot and place in the sun until dry and then launder as usual Every 2 weeks, you should run a cycle of hot water with 2 cups of chlorine bleach or white vinegar and _ cup of detergent through the washer. Add the bleach at the beginning of the cycle, directly to the wash tub. This will remove any detergent buildup and also keep germs from accumulating in the airtight parts of the washer. This is especially important if you do a lot of cloth diapers in your machine, as buildup from previous loads can damage the diapers or leave a residue that could cause a rash. Cleaning with Oranges My husband loves to eat oranges and I love to keep my garbage disposal fresh, so I combine the two! I have my husband put his orange peels in a dish I keep by the sink. When needed (about once a week) I put part of the peel down the disposal and turn it on! Up comes the fresh smell of oranges! This still works even if the peels dry out, just let them soak a bit before turning on the disposal. This may sound like I'm nutty about orange peels but they can also be saved and used for cooking and marinades.Just let them dry out, store in ziplock bag. When you're ready to use some, let soak in water for about 10 minutes then add to your marinade or to what you're cooking (discard before serving the food!) Quick Microwave Cleaning: In a bowl, mix 1 and 1/2 cups water and 3 teaspoons of lemon juice. Place in microwave and cook on high for 10 minutes. When time is up, take out the bowl. Then just wipe down the microwave with a cloth. All the dried on gunk wipes right off!! Homemade Cleaners Windshield Washer Fluid:Here is a cheap substitute for windshield washer cleaner in your vehicle: 1/2 gallon water, 2 Tbls vinegar and 1 tsp dishsoap. OR 1/2 gallon water and 2 Tbls of Mr Clean or other household type cleaner. Note: this will freeze in colder weather, use only in warm months. Eyeglass Cleaner: Do you or anyone else in your house wear glasses? Try this for a cheap, never fail cleaner: fill a tiny squirt bottle with rubbing alcohol, water and a few drops of dish soap and use as you would normal glass cleaner. This cuts the dirt and grease on the glasses as well as drying streak free. Jewelry Cleaner: Next time you brush your teeth, take an old toothbrush and place a small amount of toothpaste on it. Brush your rings and other jewelry peices with this, rinsing with water and drying on a towel when finished. This will clean that diamond ring of yours as well as pricey jewelry cleaner or having it professionally cleaned! Homemade Baby Wipes: I like to keep a supply of home made baby wipes on hand (even though our son is past that stage) as a quick cleaner-upper for spills etc. • 1/2 roll of a good brand paper towel with no print (I use bounty) • 2 cups *hot* water • 2 tblsp baby shampoo • 2 tblsp baby oil Cut roll of paper towels in half, take out cardboard roll, and place in old diaper wipe container or some other air tight container. Mix the water, shampoo and oil. Add shampoo to water, not vise-versa (unless you want a bubble bath!) Let cool before using.
