Uses for Baking soda Baking Soda for the body: Remove buildup in your hair by mixing a tsp of baking soda in with your regular shampoo and lathering as usual. Be sure and use conditioner after doing this. Help the pain of sunburn by soaking in a luke warm bath to which you have added a generous amount of baling soda from half to a whole box of baking soda. Mix baking soda with your facial cleanser to make a mild and good facial scrub. Zit zapper: thick paste of baking soda and peroxide applied before bed. Soften hands while you do dishes by adding baking soda to the dish water. Use baking soda to clean off marker stains from your kids hands. If you are like me you've recently had your hands in some dirt, and have learned sometimes no matter how much you scrub it won't get out from under nails. Try putting some baking soda on a dampened brush and work it into your nails on top and underneath. Dirt should dissolve away. Use baking soda as a mouthwash, about 1/2 tsp of baking soda , in a cup of water and rinse your mouth as you would with mouthwash. It gets rid of onion and garlic smells! Keep baking soda in a flour shaker it will look good wherever you put it, or in an empty talcum powder container. Or a sugar container or even a salt shaker. You could always cover the box with self-stick paper or even wrapping paper and keep in your counter. Baking soda is a great deodorizer. Use it in the closet, by making sachets. Put 1/2 cup of baking soda in the toes of a pair of old clean pantyhose. Tie two knots, one at the fill point and one about an inch above the first. Repeat until you run out of hose. Cut between the knots and store in an airtight container. Use them where and as you need to. Closets, drawers, lockers, gym bags, shoes etc...... Sprinkle baking soda in your trash can before you insert the garbage bag. Corning and other flat top stoves keep the original finish when you clean with baking soda and water in solution or as a paste. The only thing you must do is when finished give it a quick swipe with a cloth damped with vinegar or lemon juice. Baking soda tends to leave a film or maybe it's just the combination with my hard water. Boiling a few spoonfuls of baking soda and water in a microwave safe cup for 3-5 minutes, will make it easier to clean the walls of the microwave. Baking soda can easily replace your non-abrasive cleaners. I don't use soft scrub or comet or anything other then my scented baking soda. It works great in stainless steel sinks. I sometimes do a quick swipe with my scented vinegar to get rid of film. Baking Soda in the Garden. For wonderful magnificent bloom, all flower species that thrive in an alkaline soil(geranium, begonia, hydrangea) benefit from an occasional watering with weak baking soda solution. Sprinkle baking soda lightly around tomato plants to sweeten them by lowering their acidity. Sprinkle flower beds lightly and only occasionally around flower beds to discourage rabbits from nibbling on buds(I'm trying this one for sure). get rid of backyard slugs by sprinkling baking soda on them. Or just put out a pie plate with beer in it, they love it to death! To kill aphids, spider mites and white fly combine 1 tsp baking soda and 1/3 cup cooking oil. From this mixture measure 2 tsps and combine with 1 cup water and fill a plant sprayer. Clean your bird bath by sprinkling with baking soda. With a damp cloth or brush, scrub away scum. rinse well and refill with water. No toxins for the birdies.
